Time to Restore
Photographs simply do not age well. They fade, crack, peel and tear. As they continue to deteriorate and acquire new battle scars the clarity and sharpness disappear. Most of us can remember looking at the same photos 20 or 30 years ago and thinking they already looked discolored and/or faded. The time has come to restore and preserve these irreplaceable links to your family's past.
The Importance of Duplication
Also, consider having duplicates made to remove the risk of the only copies being destroyed. Northeast Florida has been extremely fortunate with hurricanes but it would be foolish to think we're immune. Be certain that you take the necessary measures to identify and insure the valuables your insurance company could never reimburse or replace.
Choose Carefully
The person providing a quote is making an educated guess of how much work their “tools of the trade” can save them; and some places are guessing how valuable the photo is to the customer. Get quotes from at least two places. The tools and techniques have improved drastically in recent years but not everyone has stayed recent with the technology and others just prefer the astronomical prices of years past. There are still going to be photos that require skillful, tedious attention to detail but the business with latest tools and knowledge will have the capabilities to do a better job in less time, thus saving you a little money.
